Two MYP girls studying

ADVANCED BILINGUAL VS. ANGLOPHONE

Starting in PYP2, students have the choice between two different programmes, the advanced bilingual and the anglophone one. When possible, we encourage them to follow the advanced bilingual track. .

In Early Year and PYP1 (Kindergarten and 1st grade)  all students will follow the English programme, while still learning French. Starting in PYP2 (2nd grade), Montgomery International School offers two different tracks:

PYP 2-5  (age 7-11)

English track:  all subjects are taught in English except for French as a second language
Advanced bilingual track: students will be exposed to 50% or French and 50% of English

MYP 1-5 (age 11-16)

English track: All subjects are taught in English - except for French as a second language
Advanced bilingual track: students will be exposed to 70% English and 30% French (French Language & Literature, and History taught in French)

DP 1-2 (age 16-18)

English track: All subjects are taught in English - except for French as a second language
Advanced bilingual track: The Advanced Bilingual diploma requires a second language taught as Language and Literature and another subject taught in the same second language (at EIM, History is taught in French).

Advanced Bilingual Diploma

Montgomery International School is the only school in Brussels which offers the Advanced Bilingual Diploma, a differentiating criterion when applying to universities.

EIM's requirements for the Advanced Bilingual Diploma:

  • French Language and Literature
  • English Language and Literature
  • History in French

Additionally, Theory of knowledge (TOK) is offered in French and the Extended Essay can be written in French.
