Primary school - Grades 1 - 5

Bilingual primary school

With a maximum of 16 per class, pupils are immersed from the age of 5 in a bilingual French-English programme. For the last two years of secondary, students can choose a bilingual or anglophone programme.

Primary pupils have a programme with 50% of lessons taught in English and 50% in French. Pupils who are at beginner level in one of these two languages are regularly taken in small groups.

Small group language courses

English and French lessons are given in small groups where the students are sorted according to their level so that all children can feel at ease to learn the language as quickly as possible.

Communication skills and creativity

Creativity and communication skills are a fundamental part of learning. The theatre teacher takes a session with the pupils on Wednesday morning during which time the children are helped to develop their self-confidence. The students also prepare for an annual show in March.

Reading and Technology

Each classroom has a library of books and comics in French and in English. Tablets are mainly used for the learning of languages, for example to work on assigned group projects or to create short videos.

Activities and Outings

The EIM organises several outings; visits to museums and exhibitions, the book fair, the chocolate museum, visit to the farm, cinema and the school trips to New York and Disneyland Paris (2016/2017)
Saint Nicholas visits the school every year and the children celebrate Halloween by dressing up.

Primary classes also participate in the fundraising project for children in Moldova by preparing and selling pancakes and cookies.

Once a week, the children play Hockey or Tennis at the "Orée Royal Club" in Woluwé Saint-Pierre.
